Maria 03:06
You know we lived in the Bortolon house... And that night, your nonno was downstairs, walking. And somebody hit him on the head. Something beat him in the head. I tell you, my mother’s sister is not from San Zenone. My aunt knew everything about these kinds of people. Over there, they came to our place. The stregati. They could take down all the bricks of the house, Because that’s what they did. My mother told Zia Mafalda and Zia Mafalda said, Don’t worry. I know what has to be done. And one day she said, Tell Germano to go away from that house. Don’t stay no more. The people that don’t want you here Are Stregati. It’s a curse. A malocchio is terrible. It cuts. It makes sickness and kills. It makes ugly things. It’s bad. It’s all Stregheria, Malocchio. Whoever wanted you If they don’t like you They will be angry But never enter your place.
And if it does, you die. It’s true. Not me, not me. Just my sister, my sister. She met stregati, Zia Gina. In her bed, she found a garland With flowers. She found everything. She was supposed to die. She died. Zio Angelo is still here. They said that you have to burn everything But never open the door Because [they’re] in the door, They want to come in. If they come in, then she is okay No, no more. And Zio Angelo took all of the things they make, The garlands, things for when the people die They said you have to go and find water And take everything out Don’t stop If you do that, then Zia Gina will be okay. It’s a true story. Everybody was scared.

Such a pretty face to burn What a shame, your lashes are all gone Please, waste your time Thinking about things Things that don’t exist I’ll wait in line For days and days Just to see you cry Just to see you cry Just to see you What a waste of a face You could act a little nicer Please hold your tongue I don’t want to hear what you’re saying I don’t want to know what you’re doing You’re just wasting my time I don’t want to hear you cry I don’t want to hear you cry, I I don’t want to hear you cry, I I don’t want to hear you I don’t want to hear you cry, I I don’t want to hear you cry, I I don’t want to hear you cry, I I don’t want to hear you cry, I I don’t want to hear you

My eyes are open Letting all the light in My heart, dragging on the bottom I used to love you I used to care My head is pressed against the window Raindrops falling on the glass I used to love you I used to care Give me a reason to grow old Give me a reason to grow old Goodnight, my dear Night-night, my dear Crossed the line Gone too far Make you regret everything you’ve ever done I refuse you I need a bath Power is a lonely outcome Now you’re the lonely one I used to love you I used to care Give me a reason to grow old Give me a reason to grow old Goodnight, my dear Night-night, my dear

Out At Sea 06:59
I arrived in Canada in March, April....end of March early April. I stayed at Zia Angela’s house, and I didn’t see anyone. I stayed there until I got married at Church of Our Lady, with an Italian priest because I had just come from Italy. We had a big wedding celebration. Your Nonno was very happy and so was I, to start our lives in Canada. [Many years later] we returned [to Italy] in May via ship and we stayed for two years. We lived in the old Bortolon compound in the countryside. Since your Nonno was the oldest family member, he had to look after the farm.

Basta 00:15
They said you know what? It’s better you go away Because you’ll die if you stay at the house. So we went back. Okay, enough.
